Frank “The Answer” Edgar is a former UFC Lightweight Champion who holds notable victories over some of the top names in mixed-martial arts. At 5’6 and 145lbs he may not be the biggest or the strongest, but his conditioning and his heart can go pound-for-pound with anyone. According to Edgar, his workouts have progressed into more specific training. “I've been an athlete my whole life. You learn to train not only harder, but smarter. I'm not just wrestling; I'm doing boxing, wrestling, Jiu jitsu. Even my strength and conditioning has gotten better.” Here are just some of Edgar’s shocking workouts that MMA fans have been privileged enough to witness:

1.UFC 66 Open Workouts

Before taking on, and defeating, Urijah Faber during an epic clash at UFC Fight Night 66, Frankie Edgar showcased his impressive conditioning for fans during open workouts in Pasay, Philippines. Edgar showed off his fast hands and fluid footwork the night before he successfully defended his title from Urijah Faber at UFC Fight Night 66. 2. Endurance King

It’s very clear that Frankie Edgar takes his conditioning very seriously. He’s known for having great wind and endurance each time he steps inside The Octagon. Edgar lives the fighter’s life where training is at the forefront of everything he does. Any chance to up his cardio in day-to-day life, he takes it such as opting for the stairs rather than riding in the elevator. During various conditioning workouts online you will find Edgar doing circuits that involve a variety of kettlebell swings and presses; stability ball training; footwork drills on an agility ladder; sled pushing and pulling; various plyometrics; and of course the staple of shadow boxing and footwork drills. 3. UFC 150 Media Workout

Before stepping into The Octagon at UFC 150 to take on Ben Henderson in a lightweight title fight, Frankie Edgar allowed the camera lens of various media outlets a look at some of his training techniques. The Musclepharm Gym in Denver, CO hosted the event that saw Edgar and his boxing coach Mark Henry employ various drills to work hand speed. Though this time instead of using traditional focus mitts, coach Henry employed the use of foam “noodles” you most often see at swimming pools used as floatation devices. 4. The Frankie Edgar Series

Recognizing his unparalleled training regimes, Gaspari nutrition contacted Frankie Edgar to do an entire series on MMA training for their YouTube blog. The eight-part series started in Edgar’s early days as a wrestler, his transition into MMA and the UFC, and rounded out with a focus on traditional techniques such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Building MMA Explosiveness. 5. TRX Athlete

Edgar began using the TRX training system to switch up his workouts. “You don't just go in and do work. You have to be smart about it,” Edgar says. “My camp uses a lot of different tools, like the suspension trainer from TRX.” Edgar attributes his stamina, durability and power in the Octagon primarily to core strength he’s developed by using the TRX training system. “I've had some issues with my back in the past, had back surgery when I was 18, so that always kind of haunts me. The suspension trainer lets me really use my core. It comes in handy, I can travel with it. I’ve been using TRX almost religiously.” Edgar’s training incorporates TRX throughout his workouts to include dynamic stretching, mobility work, and intense conditioning circuits.
